The group went kayaking to Wicklow and then had some treats after. Thank you to Laura Jones for organizing and to Nicole Keogh for doing photographer.

They all had a great time and it will hopefully be a fun reminder of their last week in Primary school.

We wish them all the very best in the future and we will miss you all!

Junior Room School Tour - Greenan Maze

school tour.jpg

Our Junior Room had their annual school tour on Thursday 17th June and headed to Greenan Maze with Ms Fitzgerald and Mary. Again due to covid restrictions the Dept of Education advised that school tours should be kept local this year. We weren’t going to have the children miss out therefore we settled on an fun filled daze at the maze.

The weather was glorias and the children all had a great time. We split into 2 teams first and tackled the maze to try to find the center.. Next up was time in the park which the children all loved, we then went on to play football and other games. After this we had a lovely walk through the forest while doing a treasure hunt. The children were promised some treasure if they finished and were all very excited to make it to the end. We visited the museum while on the treasure hunt and got to look at lots of old machinery and tools from long ago. The children also got to visit the farmers cottage and look at how it was all laid out in previous years. There were also animals to see while on the walk and lots of funny smells :-)

Last up was more time in the park and the children all got a surprise visit from the Maze’s peacock whilst here.

Overall everyone had a fantastic day and there were smiles and laughter all round from everyone. We couldnt ask for more than that. Again school tour no 2 was a great success!!

It will be an action packed week and there are lots of fun activities planned for each day such as a day of outdoor play with the outdoor toys, a mini sports day and also a fun day at River Valley Holiday Park for the whole school and lots more in between.

Our planned whole school trip to River Valley will be on Tuesday 22nd June. All classes will be attending . The current classroom pods will remain during the visit therefore all covid19 protocols will be adhered to.

All pupils will get to do 2 planned activities go-karting and crazy golf. We will also get the opportunity to use the lovely children’s park whilst there and the pupils will all get to play.

We are asking parents that they cover a fee of €6.00 towards the trip to River Valley. A link for this trip will be issued via Aladdin to all parents which will be payable by Monday 21st June.

As the children will be spending a lot of time outdoors next week please ensure they are wearing comfortable footwear and are dressed appropriately for the unpredictable weather in Ireland (ie) sunscreen and a sun hat if weather sunny/hot and a light raincoat if weather is damp. Please also give adequate drinks.

It’s looking like a fun week ahead!!

We weren’t going to have the children miss out therefore we settled on an adventure packed trip to Hidden Valley.

We were very lucky with the lovely weather which made the tour even nicer. The children competed the new Aqua splash obstacle course on the water. Everyone really enjoyed it and it was wonderful to see the children enjoying themselves after such a tough year. Next up was lunch and they all got to spend time and use the play park which was also great. Last item on the agenda was an activity of laser tag which everyone also really enjoyed and it was a great teambuilding exercise for the children.

Overall a brilliant day was had by everyone and we are sure the children slept well on the night from all the activity! A very successful school tour!

Our senior room pupils got to enjoy the recent beautiful weather we have been having and started our fairy garden project. We sourced some wooden wheels which the pupils have painted in gorgeas bright colours and which we will all decorate as a whole school project in the coming weeks.

Each pupil have also received their own wooden fairy door which they could paint in their own choice of design and these will then be decorated and placed around the school for many years to come.

It will be a lovely way of pupils leaving their own mark on Scoil San Eoin and will really brighten up our lovely outdoor space where the children will play

IT Questionnaire for Parents - More replies needed!

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We issued an IT Questionnaire to all parents via email on the 05th May regarding digital learning and technology in our school.

In order for us to draw up an effective digital learning plan for our school we need to have the input of parents. As part of the process, we are collecting information regarding the use of digital technology in our school and we would greatly appreciate parental input on this. If you haven’t already submitted a completed questionnaire, could you please complete and return one to help us get an overall opinion from parents as at present we can’t use the data that has been received already as we do not enough replies.

A link has been reissued to all parents via email today 19th May 2021

When finished please press submit.

We really appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey.

Moving on up workshop for 5/6th Class Pupils (Transitioning to secondary school)

moving on up.jpg

Our5/6th Class pupils completed a workshop on Monday 17th via zoom called Moving On Up: Transferring to Secondary School. The aim of the workshop was to equip our 5/6th class pupils with the skills and knowledge to make a smooth transition to secondary school. Some of the topics covered during the zoom were friendship, social and emotional skills, organizational skills and digital well-being.

Overall the workshop was a great success and the pupils really enjoyed it. We really hope that it will assist our pupils in making things easier for them when moving to secondary school

All pupils received a certificate and a Moving on up pupil booklet which outlines everything they covered on the day. The plan is now to include this course every 2nd year for 5/6th classes to cover before making the transition to secondary school.

Lots happening in the month of April in the Junior Room!

Since we returned to school after the Easter holidays the children have completed lots of great work around our SESE theme of the month of Space. Everyone (including Ms. Fitzgerald) learned lots of new information about Space and I’m sure they will surprise you with their knowledge. We also spent time on the measures topic in Maths with lots of work done on Time and Money - 1st and 2nd class even set up a shop in the classroom for everyone to practise using coins. We also spent some time planting cress and sunflower seeds which we hope will continue to grow on our windowsill and eventually make it out to the school garden. We hope you enjoy looking through all our photographs.
