November in the Senior Room
November has been a very productive and interesting month for the Senior Room. We are trying to get as much work done as we can before the festive season kicks off next month!!
In Gaeilge we covered the theme of Sa Bhaile. We worked very hard on how to structure and write good sentences and then everyone wrote some fantastic pieces. 5th and 6th debated whether it was better to live in the country or in the city and 3rd and 4th wrote about looking for something they lost in their house.
In English we analysed some recounts and then wrote our own and read about the famous Moon landing and also how to protect and look after our environment
In Music we are making great strides with our ukulele lessons and were having great fun. We hope to be able to do a brief performance for Christmas! We are also working on our Peace Proms songs with Ms Hedderman each week.
In Geography we did some brilliant work around the Environment also. We looked at causes and effects of global warming, recycling, plastic pollution and extreme weather.
In History we had great fun making amazing dioramas of schools in the past and present and each person did a project relating to schools. So far they are super…(were still presenting them!)
In Religion we Remembered for November and read about the story of Lazurus. We also remembered those close to us who have died. The Confirmation class have started preparing and made a lovely poster to represent one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit - Fire
In SPHE we looked a the theme of friendship and did some lovely pair work. We are continuing on with our Weaving Wellbeing and working on Positive Emotions.
In Maths we tackled the theme of Time which can be a tricky one!
During Science Week we did a fun experiment with Ms Hedderman about density and also looked at how strong air can be when compressed…..it nearly held up a whole pod….until POP!!
Finally…well done to Keeley, Cian and Emma who are flying along in their TTRS(Touch, Type, Read and Spell) and have received certificates.
Also. We are delighted with our new laptops. Check out our busy bees 5th and 6th working on them…
Scoil San Eoin Sponsored Halloween Cycle - 22nd Oct 2020
We had our annual Halloween sponsored cycle on Thursday 22nd Oct 2020. Even with COVID19 Guidelines and rules in place, the day went ahead safely and was a great success! The skies were clear and the sun was shining to ensure that a great days cycling was had by all. Lots of brilliant parents came to help out on the day some cycled with the children, some parents drove in front and behind to make sure the pupils and parents were safe, others helped the younger pupils navigate their way around Cullen Park and to and from the school. The boys and girls had a fantastic day both on the 7k route and in Cullen Pk and they were very proud of their achievement. All of the benefits of extra cycling during lockdown and extra exercise programmes completed in school such as GAA/Hurling and rugby could really be seen across all classes and showed that we truly are an active school!!
Afterwards the children got to enjoy some well deserved treats and refreshments back at the school.
Thank you to all that sponsored the pupils and helped out on the day.
Cards are still being received but as soon as we have a total we will notify parents and post on our website. Again thank you, funds raised will towards much needed items for the school.
Well done all!
October in the Senior Room
October was another busy and active month in the Senior Room.

SPHE/Religion - We began our Weaving Wellbeing Programme and found out all about the positive benefits of Wellbeing and Mindfulness. As October is the month of the Rosary we looked at the history of the Rosary and how and when to say it.
Maths Week - We were busy playing maths games, watching Maths Tv and surveying, tallying and recording on graphs on our chosen topic
Geography - We learned more about our beautiful country, concentrating on the rivers and lakes

Pancake Tuesday - 25th February 2020
The children were very lucky to get to eat pancakes and try some delicious toppings on Pancake Tuesday morning. Thank you to all the parents who came in and catered for the children. It was a great morning and all costs will be covered by our fundraising account.
Have a look at some other great work we have been doing in the Senior room!
Paper folding with Michelle, pirate ships in art, fun outside, really great projects on Australia and we learned all about the Aboriginal People and Dreamtime.
Media Studies and Advertising
The senior pupils have been learning about advertising and the media. They have looked at the variety of ways in which companies advertise, the tricks of the trade such as use of colour, slogans, jingles etc and also how advertising and media affect our choices and how we spend our money. They were then set the task of creating their own cereal brand in pairs, and designing an advertising campaign for this new cereal, which they thoroughly enjoyed. Some pupils even created their own ad using SCRATCH and the skills they have learned in IT classes. Well done everyone!!

This year the Senior Class are taking part in the Something Fishy Programme organised by Blackrock Education Centre and the Central Fisheries Board (CFB). The lessons are based on the theme of the ‘Life cycle of salmon’ - Bradán.
