grandparents day 2.jpg
GRANDPARENTS DAY 1.jpg

A huge thank you to all grandparents and parents who attended Grandparents Day in the school. The pupils loved having you in the school and spending time with you. Thank you also to the Parents Reps who provided teas, coffees and treats on the day. The pupils were delighted to show off some of the games they play in school, at home, and as part of their lessons . The very active and fun loving grandparents in the senior room took part in the 10@10 exercises showing the pupils that exercise is for any age!!. The grandparents also answered questions on their childhood and school days and some brought in mementos from that time to show to pupils. All grandparents , including those who could not attend, received a certificate and card from their grandchild outlining what they loved about them.

It was a very enjoyable day and it was clear from the cards and art activities that the pupils created and wrote, that their Grandparents are a much loved and important part of their lives.

Senior room pupils taking on Chess Lessons!

chess 1.jpeg

Our pupils from the Senior room are taking part in a 6 week course of Chess lessons with chess coach Seamus Duffy. There will be a chess tournament at the end called ‘Ficheal’ so pupils are very eager to learn and enjoying taking part.

Chess has so many educational benefits for the children - It helps to develop children’s critical thinking and reasoning, encourages them to plan ahead and teaches them that their actions have consequences. It also encourages problem-solving, sportsmanship and self-esteem, often allowing quieter children to shine and is great for concentration and patience.

10@10 Whole School Challenge

10-at-10.jpg
excersise.jpg

All pupils are going to be taking part in the 10@10 challenge for the next few weeks. This is to encourage all pupils to get active while having fun for 10 minutes, every morning at 10 o’clock and to show them how a little exercise every day can make a big difference!

Exercises can be done in the classroom so it doesn’t matter what the weather’s like outside.

We are encouraging all parents/guardians to also take part at home when they can.

Keep an eye on our website for the next few weeks for our fun videos.

50765388-colorful-drawing-grandparents-day-card.jpg

We are holding Grandparents Day again this year and inviting all Grandparents to visit the children and Scoil San Eoin on Thursday 30th Jan from 11am.

Grandparents will get to answer informal questions from the children about themselves and their lives growing up. Its gives the children a great insight into life then compared to now and they also love the chance to show their grandparents where they go to school and their classroom.

If possible we would ask all grandparents if they could to bring in photos/games or memorabilia from the past to share with the children.

There will be some light refreshments after for everyone to enjoy.

We are encouraging all grandparents to attend if possible and everyone is welcome.

Please spread the word.

Thank You

Sponsored Cycle - Thurs 24th Oct 2019

We had our first sponsored cycle on Thursday 24th Oct 2019. The skies were clear and the sun was shining to ensure that a great days cycling was had by all. Lots of brilliant parents came to help out on the day some cycled with the children, some parents, including our Parents Rep drove in front and behind to make sure the pupils and parents were safe, others helped the younger pupils navigate their way around Cullen Park and to and from the school, and other Parents Reps organised the very welcome refreshments at the end of the cycle. The boys and girls had a fantastic day both on the 7k route and in Cullen Pk and they were very proud of their achievement. It is a testament to the effort they have put in during the Cycle Right Programme and shows that we truly are and active school!! Thanks to all that sponsored the pupils and helped out on the day. Thanks to Claire Jenkinson who organised the Wicklow People to come and photograph the day and also sent in photos to the Wicklow Times. An amazing grand total of 1505.55 euro was raised in total.
