It will be an action packed week and there are lots of fun activities planned for each day such as a day of outdoor play with the outdoor toys, a mini sports day and also a fun day at River Valley Holiday Park for the whole school and lots more in between.

Our planned whole school trip to River Valley will be on Tuesday 22nd June. All classes will be attending . The current classroom pods will remain during the visit therefore all covid19 protocols will be adhered to.

All pupils will get to do 2 planned activities go-karting and crazy golf. We will also get the opportunity to use the lovely children’s park whilst there and the pupils will all get to play.

We are asking parents that they cover a fee of €6.00 towards the trip to River Valley. A link for this trip will be issued via Aladdin to all parents which will be payable by Monday 21st June.

As the children will be spending a lot of time outdoors next week please ensure they are wearing comfortable footwear and are dressed appropriately for the unpredictable weather in Ireland (ie) sunscreen and a sun hat if weather sunny/hot and a light raincoat if weather is damp. Please also give adequate drinks.

It’s looking like a fun week ahead!!

Senior Room School Tour - Tuesday 15th June 2021

school tour.jpg

Our senior room along with Ms Greene and Ms Nicholson headed to Hidden Valley in Rathdrum on Tuesday for our annual school tour. Due to covid19 restrictions the Dept of Education advised that school tours should be kept local this year. We weren’t going to have the children miss out therefore we settled on an adventure packed trip to Hidden Valley.

We were very lucky with the lovely weather which made the tour even nicer. The children competed the new Aqua splash obstacle course on the water. Everyone really enjoyed it and it was wonderful to see the children enjoying themselves after such a tough year. Next up was lunch and they all got to spend time and use the play park which was also great. Last item on the agenda was an activity of laser tag which everyone also really enjoyed and it was a great teambuilding exercise for the children.

Overall a brilliant day was had by everyone and we are sure the children slept well on the night from all the activity! A very successful school tour!

Well done to Ms Nicholson’s group who are surpassing themselves completing levels in both Lexia and TTRS. We are so proud of you! Keep up the great work!

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

December has been a busy and fun month in the Senior class. We really got into the festive spirit and had great fun opening our class Advent calendar each day, which either gave us a whole class treat or an Act of Kindness to carry out.

In English we continued with the genre of Recount by retelling the story of The Nativity. We also read about Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future in The Christmas Carol. We also got really into debating and had some great debates on some hot topics such as Gaming and Zoos!

In Maths we learned our multiplication tables, Gaelige we learned the theme of Bia.

In Religion we looked at Advent and preparing for Christmas, as well as the Annunciation and Christmas itself.

We did some fabulous Christmas arts and crafts and beautiful paintings that really added to the Christmas feel around the classroom.

In SPHE, we talked about the different types of families we can be part of and each child made their own Family crest thinking about different aspects of their families and what they liked to do.

Darren our GAA coach is back to do Gaelic football with us each week.

The pupils did some fantastic projects on Schools in the Past, gathering information from a variety of sources including interviews with family members and neighbors. They each presented them to the class.

They also made some cool light up Christmas cards as part of a STEM lesson and did some brilliant troubleshooting and investigating if they didn’t light up.

Finally we topped the term off by watching a Christmas movie and munching on treat bags made up by our Parent Rep Cleo, who also included some Reindeer food so that no-one went hungry!! Each child also went home with a lovely Kris Kindle gift from a classmate! What a great term!!

November in the Senior Room

November has been a very productive and interesting month for the Senior Room. We are trying to get as much work done as we can before the festive season kicks off next month!!

In Gaeilge we covered the theme of Sa Bhaile. We worked very hard on how to structure and write good sentences and then everyone wrote some fantastic pieces. 5th and 6th debated whether it was better to live in the country or in the city and 3rd and 4th wrote about looking for something they lost in their house.

In English we analysed some recounts and then wrote our own and read about the famous Moon landing and also how to protect and look after our environment

In Music we are making great strides with our ukulele lessons and were having great fun. We hope to be able to do a brief performance for Christmas! We are also working on our Peace Proms songs with Ms Hedderman each week.

In Geography we did some brilliant work around the Environment also. We looked at causes and effects of global warming, recycling, plastic pollution and extreme weather.

In History we had great fun making amazing dioramas of schools in the past and present and each person did a project relating to schools. So far they are super…(were still presenting them!)

In Religion we Remembered for November and read about the story of Lazurus. We also remembered those close to us who have died. The Confirmation class have started preparing and made a lovely poster to represent one of the symbols of the Holy Spirit - Fire

In SPHE we looked a the theme of friendship and did some lovely pair work. We are continuing on with our Weaving Wellbeing and working on Positive Emotions.

In Maths we tackled the theme of Time which can be a tricky one!

During Science Week we did a fun experiment with Ms Hedderman about density and also looked at how strong air can be when compressed…..it nearly held up a whole pod….until POP!!

Finally…well done to Keeley, Cian and Emma who are flying along in their TTRS(Touch, Type, Read and Spell) and have received certificates.

Also. We are delighted with our new laptops. Check out our busy bees 5th and 6th working on them…

Scoil San Eoin Sponsored Halloween Cycle - 22nd Oct 2020

thank you.jpg
sponsered cycle.jpeg

We had our annual Halloween sponsored cycle on Thursday 22nd Oct 2020. Even with COVID19 Guidelines and rules in place, the day went ahead safely and was a great success! The skies were clear and the sun was shining to ensure that a great days cycling was had by all. Lots of brilliant parents came to help out on the day some cycled with the children, some parents drove in front and behind to make sure the pupils and parents were safe, others helped the younger pupils navigate their way around Cullen Park and to and from the school. The boys and girls had a fantastic day both on the 7k route and in Cullen Pk and they were very proud of their achievement. All of the benefits of extra cycling during lockdown and extra exercise programmes completed in school such as GAA/Hurling and rugby could really be seen across all classes and showed that we truly are an active school!!

Afterwards the children got to enjoy some well deserved treats and refreshments back at the school.

Thank you to all that sponsored the pupils and helped out on the day.

Cards are still being received but as soon as we have a total we will notify parents and post on our website. Again thank you, funds raised will towards much needed items for the school.

Well done all!
