Open Day/Sale of Work - Sat 06th April (A Great Success)

thankyou-1.jpeg

We had our annual Open Day and a new fundraiser, a Sale of Work, on Sat 06th April. The community of Redcross did not disappoint, and lots of visitors and school families came on the day.

We had items of every description donated by community members and school parents, from clothing, lamps, toys, buggies, bedding, books, handbags etc and lots of bargains were to be got on the day! We also had some gorgeous cakes and treats, baked and donated, to enjoy with coffee or tea or to buy and take home.

We also had a raffle on the day. First prize was a monster Easter hamper and two fabulous tarts (donated from Brittas Bay Cafe) was our 2nd and 3rd prizes.

The winners on the day were as follows:

  • 1st Prize (Easter Hamper) - Suzie Griffin

  • 2nd Prize (Blueberry Tart) - Archie via Aisling Tiernan

  • 3rd prize (Pear Tart) - Sean O Neill.

Overall the day was a huge success, new prospective parents/pupils were able to view the school facilities and meet the staff on the day and we also got to combine a fundraiser and raise money towards a laptop trolley for the school.

A huge thank you to our parent reps (Cleo Griffin, Cathy Nolan, Michelle Redmond, Laura Jones, Lorika Hoogers and Jill Power) who worked tirelessly to organise prior to the day and who also ran and helped out on the day. Thanks to Karen Tiernan and other parents who helped out on the day or donated to the Sale of Work/Cake Sale

A total of €1146.94 was raised on the day and will go into our fundraising account for the school.

Again thank you to everyone for making the day so successful.

Anyone 4 Science - After School Club

anyone for science.jpg

Please see below information from Anyone for Science on the possibility of setting up an after school club for next year. We have queried the price and will revert back but if any parents are interested please email your class teacher or contact Mary in the school office.

_________________________________________________________________

Would you like to provide an After School Science Club in your school for the next school year?

After school science clubs are provided by the staff at Anyone 4 Science. Anyone 4 Science is an educational organisation providing fun hands-on science and engineering activities for primary school children.

A science club is a great offering to kids who may not be as interested in sports or arts and want to explore the world of science and to encourage all kids' inquiring minds.

We currently run clubs in 13 primary schools in Wicklow (eg. St Patrick's NS Greystones, Wicklow Educate Together and St Francis NS Newcastle) and would love to offer this service to your school as well.

We would propose to run one class for junior/senior infants lasting 50 minutes, followed by a class for 1st to 6th class lasting an hour. Classes are normally run within an available classroom. We usually take up to 12 infants in a class and up to 16 older children. If more children sign up we can provide additional teachers.

Please contact the school office if you have any interest in the above

Cumann na mBunscol held their annual skills competition in Annacurra on Friday 22nd March. Scoil San Eoin were given the opportunity to put 2 students forward for Hurling/GAA & Comagie.

Pupils were given skills sheets which they had to practice in the run up to the event and then on the day they were asked to preform these skills.

Well done to Jack Nolan (4th class) Daniel Jones (4th class) and Ronan Wynne (2nd class) who all represented the school in hurling and GAA.

Seachtain na Gaeilge and other activities - Senior Room

Recently we celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge. This year we revised Amhran na bhFiann, learned some Seanfhocals, completed a booklet revising the main themes in Gaeilge, and created some fun artwork for Lá Féile Pádraig. We’re also learning Glaoch na hÉireann (Ireland’s Call) which we will perform next week (video evidence to follow!)

We have also cover the topic of water safety in SPHE using the PAWS programme and learned the ABC of Water Safety. Having completed the genre of Report Writing, we wrote reports on our favourite animals and finally, we revised the meaning of and reason for, the season of Lent, in the run up to Easter, writing about some of the ways we can be our “Best Self” during this time.
