Big News Everyone! Were on News2Day at 4.20pm today Monday 22th March 2021
Dear Parents,
The children in the senior room today had the fantastic opportunity of being part of a programme on RTE2 called News2Today this morning where they got to talk to a reporter about playing chess and being part of a Ficheall tournament. The children were interviewed and filmed and we have been told just now that the show will air today at 04.20 pm on RTE2. Please tune in a little earlier just in case as this is an approx time!
The children had a great morning and it was so lovely to see such excitement during these tough times!

World Book Day 2021
Today the children in the junior room celebrated World Book Day. The children shared their favourite books followed by spending time reading and sharing in pairs. We all enjoyed the story ‘Stickman’ and even found our very own stickman from the trees in the school grounds. The children also explored the World Book Day website and listened to some audio books.
Engineers Week in the Junior Room
It has been a lovely return to school for the children in the junior room. Everybody is settled back into school life and enjoying being with their friends. We came back to school just in time to take part in some Engineers Week activities. Take a look at the photos of some of our pinwheel windmills and marble run made from recyclable materials.

Skip n Rope
Following our successful skipping workshop last year with Skip n Rope we have been given access to some tutorial videos for this school closure. The children all thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and skipping is one of the most popular activities at break time. This is a great opportunity to brush up on your skipping and practise a new skill!

GAA resumes
We are delighted to have GAA coach Darren Hayden return to Scoil San Eoin to coach all classes for the coming weeks. Fingers crossed for some dry weather to ensure we can make the most of this great opportunity.
PE Equipment
An end of term sort and tidy of our PE equipment. The children get so much use out of this sports equipment at break times and we have been lucky the weather has been kind to us this term to allow us get our daily exercise and fresh air.
Daily Mile Flag raised
Following our completion of the Daily Mile challenge we were delighted to receive a nice surprise of the colorful flag in the post. It is now flying proudly on our flag poles at the front of the school!
Active Breaks Challenge Complete!!
We always feel best and work our hardest when we take some movement breaks in the classroom. Thanks to Zoe Patterson from FYI dance studio who has provided us with some great tutorials remotely which we were able to utilise for active breaks. Zoe has taught us how important it is to exercise our bodies in order to keep our minds healthy and strong and more able to concentrate on our school work. Of course we still love some gonoodle and runs on our active walkway also.
Christmas in the Junior Room
It has been a lovely month leading up to Christmas in the Junior Room. We are very proud of all the work the children have covered this term so we had lots of nice activities throughout the month to get us all excited for Christmas.
Our theme this month was Winter and of course Christmas with some lovely artwork completed on these themes. The children learned all about the Arctic and Antarctic in SESE looking at the climate and animals who live there. We even compared the height of an Emperor Penguin to some children in the class!! We also learned all about the expeditions undertaken by the famous explorer Tom Crean. While learning about Winter we decided to help the birds which arrive to the trees outside our window by making bird feeders from scratch…..we had mixed success with this experiment-but that’s what’s it’s all about!! Well done to 1st and 2nd class who completed and presented projects on Christmas around the world, a great variety of countries were chosen so it made for interesting listening.
Thanks to Dolores and her craft expertise we made some lovely Santa’s from recycled plastic bottles and also the fabulous flower arrangements which I’m sure are filling your homes with lovely Christmas smells. The children remained active as always in December continuing our run a day where possible, recommencing GAA training and active breaks in the classroom with a festive twist.
We practised really hard to learn some Christmas songs and poems in English and Gaeilge. The children gave a great performance of these in the classroom and we hope you enjoyed watching on SeeSaw.
Have a very Happy Christmas and we look forward to listening to all your santa stories in the New Year.
Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
December has been a busy and fun month in the Senior class. We really got into the festive spirit and had great fun opening our class Advent calendar each day, which either gave us a whole class treat or an Act of Kindness to carry out.
In English we continued with the genre of Recount by retelling the story of The Nativity. We also read about Scrooge and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future in The Christmas Carol. We also got really into debating and had some great debates on some hot topics such as Gaming and Zoos!
In Maths we learned our multiplication tables, Gaelige we learned the theme of Bia.
In Religion we looked at Advent and preparing for Christmas, as well as the Annunciation and Christmas itself.
We did some fabulous Christmas arts and crafts and beautiful paintings that really added to the Christmas feel around the classroom.
In SPHE, we talked about the different types of families we can be part of and each child made their own Family crest thinking about different aspects of their families and what they liked to do.
Darren our GAA coach is back to do Gaelic football with us each week.
The pupils did some fantastic projects on Schools in the Past, gathering information from a variety of sources including interviews with family members and neighbors. They each presented them to the class.
They also made some cool light up Christmas cards as part of a STEM lesson and did some brilliant troubleshooting and investigating if they didn’t light up.
Finally we topped the term off by watching a Christmas movie and munching on treat bags made up by our Parent Rep Cleo, who also included some Reindeer food so that no-one went hungry!! Each child also went home with a lovely Kris Kindle gift from a classmate! What a great term!!

Christmas Flower Arranging
The pupils from the junior and senior room today got to make their very own centerpiece for Christmas using a variety of different materials today just in time for Christmas. They chose the material and design themselves and each and every one of them turned out fabulous. A huge thank you to Dolores Byrne for giving up her time and for demonstrating how to make them with the children. We hope you all like them!

Peace Proms in the Senior Room
The pupils have been working hard on their first Peace Proms song with Ms Hedderman. and we wanted to share what a great job they did learning the words and actions. Although they had to stay in their Pods for the performance I think they did a fantastic job and we’re looking forward to hearing the next instalment after Christmas.
Christmas in the Senior Room
Covid may have sadly prevented us from having our usual big production and concert this year, but we still wanted to spread some Christmas cheer and do a little performance for our wonderful parents. Sticking to our pods, we performed the fun song Sleigh Ride and even told a little joke at the end. Enjoy!
Operation Christmas Cheer - Christmas Postcards for Knockrobin
Wicklow Library recently contacted the school to ask if we would take part in a project where postcards would be delivered to the Nursing homes in Wicklow to create and spread some cheer among the residents at this difficult time.
The nursing home designated to SSE was Knockrobin in Wicklow. All our pupils in both rooms have been busy designing and writing postcards to send to the residents. Ms Nicholson’s Mum Frankie is currently in the care of the nursing home and lots of our pupils decided to send their cards to her while others designed some which will go to the other residents.
The pupils done a fantastic job and we now have lots of colourful cheery postcards on their way to the residents just in time for Christmas!
We know they will be thrilled to receive them and very grateful.
