Engineers busy designing bridges 4th/5th and 6th class!

Children in 4th/5th and 6th class Plan, Design and Build bridges. The children plan the material from which a structure is made and they try to strengthen the material by changing it's shape.

They designed bridges with arches and triangles where the curve of the arch spreads the load on the bridges and makes it stronger. See they fantastic designs below!

Engineering week at Scoil San Eoin-Designing earthquake resistant structures.

Children in JI/SI helped 4th/5th/6th class make jelly to form  an earthquake area base.

4th/5th/6th class planned, designed and made structures using marshmallows and jellies. They had to design structures that were earthquake resistant (tested on the jelly base).

Children carried out tests to investigate what shape was the strongest-square/cube or triangle/pyramid.

Scientists busy at work!

As part of the Discovery Primary Science and Maths programme the children have been learning all about the physics of light. They have been investigating the following:

  • What colour light is?
  • How prisms work?
  • How rainbows are formed?
  • The science behind blowing bubbles!
  • Design and make a rainbow spinner.

Take a look at some of the photos. We had lots of fun!
