Primary Stitch Project - First & Second Class Pupils
Re-Imagining Textiles Initiative - The Primary Stitch
The boys and girls in First and Second Class in Scoil San Eoin were extremely lucky to take part in a workshop called The Primary Stitch. This re-imagining textiles Initiative was funded by Sarah Rubalcava, our Environmental Awareness Officer from the Wicklow County Council.
The pupils thoroughly enjoyed 5 workshops of two hours each. Tamara who is the lead textile artist for The Primary Stitch and her colleague Susie exposed the pupils to a hands-on experience that nurtured them environmentally and made them aware as individuals to make informed, ethical, and sustainable choices about the clothing they wear and the resources they use eg: buy more from Charity Shops, pass or exchange clothes between friends and neighbours etc. During the workshops, the pupils learnt how to thread a needle, knot it and sew. At the end of the workshops, all pupils made a bunting with their own individual creative stitched triangle. The last workshop was a fun one where the pupils got to stitch and create Christmas decorations. It is lovely to see all the pupils now have a lifelong skill to stitch!
Well done everyone
You all done an amazing job!!
