European Sports Day -Senior Room
The senior room took part in European sports day and on the day completed lots of different sporting activities. We are encouraging children at Scoil San Eoin to be more active as part of our gaining our active flag.
Dear Parents,
We have signed up with Cumann na mBunscoil to encourage pupils from the senior room (3rd-6th class) to participate in blitzs being ran during the school term.
Teachers may not always be available to travel with the pupils as they are required to stay back in the classroom. If the SEN teacher is available to supervise, Ms Greene will attend the blitzs.
Pupils would need to be transported and supervised by parent reps or parents at the events outside the school grounds therefore we are seeking parents to volunteer to transport/supervise parents on blitz scheduled during the year.
For a start the below are upcoming dates for Hurling/Football & Comagie blitzs for the term ahead. Please have a look at these dates and if you are available to help transport pupils on any of these days, contact the school office and Mary will note your name.
Blitzs will only be able to go ahead if we have help from parents to transport the pupils to the games.

Our pupils from the senior room will today be commencing a Cycle Right programme provided by certified instructors. The programme is being provided by a different course provider than last year but the purpose is for the pupils to build on and revise previous knowledge.Tutors do provide a small amount of bikes but encourage students to bring their own bikes/helmets for the duration of the course to ensure that they are familiar and comfortable with using their own bike on the road. All bikes can be stored in our school shelter for the course period from Monday 09th Sept. The programme will run for approx 8 weeks. The course cost will be 20.00 per pupil, 10.00 per pupil will be subsidized by the school using fundraising money, leaving the cost of 10.00 per pupil payable to the school office by Weds 25th Sep. See below further information on the course and the benefits etc.
What is Cycle Right?
CYCLE RIGHT is the National Standard for Cycle Training and provides practical cycle safety and skills training to promote competent and confident cyclists.
What are the Goals of Cycle Right?
To ensure best-practice cycle training is delivered across Ireland.
To provide participants with the skills needed to move as cyclists in complex, changing, road environments.
To train participants to apply dynamic thinking, assessing conditions and the environment on the road as they go through their journey.
What are the Benefits?
CYCLE RIGHT will offer those taking part the skills to cycle confidently on the road network, from novice to competent cyclists.
CYCLE RIGHT is delivered over three stages with participants gaining skills and knowledge on a phased basis, preparing them to cycle in increasingly complex road scenarios.
All CYCLE RIGHT training is delivered by registered trainers.
Training will be delivered to the CYCLE RIGHT programme with defined outcomes and according to trainee/trainer ratios which facilitate the learning process.
Ongoing quality assurance and annual trainer registration will be part of the CYCLE RIGHT process to ensure consistent quality in programme delivery.
CYCLE RIGHT offers a programme uniquely suited to the Irish environment, taking account of rural, suburban and urban conditions that are regularly encountered in close proximity.

The science teacher will be Christine Campbell. Should you wish to contact her at any stage you can email: christine@anyone4science.com or you can phone us at the office on 040440563.
Science Club Dates:Science club this term is 3 weeks long and the dates are as follows:
June 6th, 13th, 20th
Science Snacks:
We have found that in all our afterschool clubs the children are often hungry after school and find it hard to concentrate. We recommend that everyone brings a science snack to eat at the beginning of science club while the teacher is introducing the science experiment.
Science Coats and Safety Glasses:
Sometimes our experiments can be a little bit messy in Science Club. To protect everyone's clothes and school uniforms we recommend that every scientist brings in an old large t-shirt that they can pull on over the clothes that they are wearing. Alternatively, if you wish, you can buy a children size science lab coat from us for a cost of €20. Similarly we recommend that safety glasses are worn while carrying out the experiments. If you have safety glasses at home, please bring them along, alternatively you can purchase safety glasses from us for €5. Please contact us if you would like to place an order for either a lab coat or safety glasses. If you have already placed an order it will be handed out on the first day of Science Club.
Parents Page:
We are delighted to announce that we have a "Parents Page" on our website. On here you will find a short blog about each experiment explaining what the class got up to in science club, what they learnt, discovered and even a few photos and videos of their experiments! There are some experiment procedures so that you can try out the experiments together at home! The page is password protected and the code to log in is "Autumn18" (the "A" is uppercase) - https://anyone4science.com/parents-page/
We are all looking forward to an exciting term of science!
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us, we would be delighted to help. Looking forward to seeing everyone on the 6th.

Pupils from 3rd - 6th took part in a Tag Rugby Blitz at Arklow Rugby Club with Barney on Thursday 30th May . They played against Aughrim NS, Carysfort NS. and Templerainey NS.
Our team demonstrated great skill and teamwork and played great. The weather was lovely and overall it was a great morning.
Transportation to the Blitz was provided by Ms. Greene and the parent reps. Thank you to all the parent reps who helped on on the day and drove the players to the Blitz. It is greatly appreciated.
Well done to all the pupils from 3-6th and thank you to Barney for organizing.

The programme is aimed at:
Teaching children the four FUNdamental cycling skills of Balance, Pedalling, Braking and Cornering
Providing a strong cycling skill foundation for young riders.
Skill development, including general cycling skills which will lay the foundation for more advanced learning of specific cycling skills in the future.
Fostering enjoyment and “want” of participation
Teaching rider’s fair-play and rules at their level, rather than promoting a win at all cost attitude
All courses are delivered by Cycling Ireland certified and Garda Vetted instructors.
At the end of the course, each trainee will receive a certificate of completion.
N.B
If your child owns their own bike and helmet, they have the option of bringing them to school for the duration of the course. All bikes will be stored in shelter which will be secure or pupils can bring bikes home after each course. This is at the discretion of parent/guardians.
