Aldi Play Rugby Competition - We are Halfway there!!

Aldi are giving primary schools a chance to win €50,000 to develop a school’s playing facility. Our large poster that we received has been hung in the hall of the school and we are delighted to report that we have filled the stickers to the halfway line!

We don’t have much more to go to be in with a chance of winning the prize but even if we do not win the main prize, just for entering a full sheet we will receive an Aldi Play Rugby kit bag, 4 rugby balls and a set of Aldi Play Rugby water bottles.

The promotion is finished on 07th April .

We can do this!!!

Please help support the school and ask your friends and family to gather as many stickers as they can when they shop in their local Aldi store.

Bagpack Fundraiser - Dunnes Stores 29th/30th

We are holding a Bagpack fundraiser on March 29th/30th at Dunnes Stores Arklow. We are looking for volunteers to fill time slots throughout the day to help us raise as much money as we can. Please contact your class rep or the school office if you can help on the days in any way.

All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used towards a new laptop trolley which will charge and store our laptops safely. This will be a huge benefit to pupils to have laptops at hand charged and ready to use at all times.

All family members once over the age of 14 can volunteer to bagpack on the day.

Food Dudes - Phase 2 (11-15th Feb)

Pupil have received their certs for completing the food dudes phase 1 programme. We are asking all parents/guardians to try to keep up the encouragement of the children bring fruit and veg to school for their snacks/lunches. Phase 2 is now beginning.
Bord Bia are rewarding the hard work of our school’s pupils by providing a special supply of fruit and vegetables for five days in February. 

This will commence on Monday 11th February and run until Friday 15th.

We are encouraging all the children to take part.

CPR Day with Polly - Friday 08th Feb

The children got the chance to do some CPR awareness and training with Polly today. Everyone enjoyed themselves and learned some valuable information that could hopefully save a life.

From the money received and a school donation we were able to give Polly a donation towards Conary Community First Responders as a thank you.

Aldi Play Rugby Competetion

Aldi are currently the official supermarket of the IRFU. They are giving primary schools a chance to win €50,000 to develop a school’s playing facility to encourage children to live a healthy and active lifestyle.

We have received a large poster to hang in the school which needs to be filled with 300 stickers. For every €30 spent in-store at your local you will receive Aldi Play Rugby Stickers. We are encouraging all pupils, families and friends to collect the stickers and bring them into school to stick on our poster.

Once the poster is filled we need to answer the question at the bottom and return to Aldi to be entered in the competition.

Others items that can be won are:

  • €2,500 voucher for sports and training equipment to a school in each province

  • A training session with Paul O’ Connell in our school, plus a set of new jerseys and an Aldi Play Rughy Kit

  • Every school that enters with a fully completed poster will get an Aldi Play Rugby kit bag, 4 rugby balls and a set of Aldi Play Rugby water bottles sent to the school.

Please help support and gather as many stickers as you can! Promotion runs from Monday 28/01/2019 until 07/04/2019

Confirmation Retreat 28th Feb - Glendalough

Our 5th and 6th Classes will be attending a Confirmation Retreat with Ms Greene in Glendalough on February 28th. Pupils will be departing from the school and all will be within school hours. The cost of the bus will be €7.00 per pupil, the school will be subsidizing the rest of the cost of the bus.

Please ensure all children are wearing suitable footwear and warm clothing.

Service of Light Ceremony (8th May) /Alb fitting (15th May)

The Service of Light Ceremony for Confirmation pupils will take place on Wednesday 8th of May @ 07.30 pm in Avoca Church. The children will need their Baptismal candle or another candle for this Ceremony. Alb fitting will take place on Weds 15th May @ 01.30 pm in the school. Should parents wish to be present for the fitting, please inform the school office or class teacher.

€5 will be required by all Confirmation pupils to cover the cost of printing booklets and for the flowers for the Ceremony. This will be collected next week and needs to be in by Friday 25th January.

Ms. Greene will be speaking with 5th/6th class pupils in relation to the Drugs/Alcohol Pledge next week. Sheets will be issued for at home.

European Championship Pro 14 Cup visits Scoil San Eoin

Barney Hynes visited the school Weds 09th January with the European Championship Pro 14 Cup for the children to view and hold. There was great excitement as Barney explained the details.

Confirmation Enrolment Ceremony

The date for our 5th & 6th Class Confirmation Enrolment ceremony is scheduled for Friday 01st Feb @ 02.00 pm in Scoil San Eoin. All parents/guardians and family members are welcome to attend. Sponsors are also welcome to attend but it is not essential for them to be present.

Parents should be preparing for the next steps for their child’s confirmation over the coming months - See below some further information:

  • Your Child will be need a candle for the Ceremony of light. Their baptismal candle is preferable but if not available a thick cream/white candle similar to style & size of baptismal candle can be used instead.

  • Child’s sponsor will need to be chosen by Friday 11th Jan

  • Child’s Confirmation name will need to be decided

  • Parents should also speak to their children about the drugs/alcohol pledge that they will be taking for Confirmation. Lessons will be completed in class in the coming weeks.

First Holy Communion Enrolemant Ceremony Date

The First Holy Communion Enrolemant Ceremony has been scheduled for Tues 29th January @ 02.15 pm at Scoil San Eoin. This is the first step in your child’s journey to First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.

All parents and family members are welcome to attend. Your child will need their baptismal candle on the day, please bring it to school.

Please Note: Please send in your child’s Baptismal Cert to the school office as soon as possible if you have not done so already.

Active Flag Slogan Competition winners from the Senior Room

Congratulations Niamh and Leah. The active school committee decided to combine both your slogans together to make a fantastic slogan for our school ‘A Healthy Heart is a Healthy Start, Be Active Not Slaktive’. Well done everyone for great efforts in term one working towards our Active Flag.

Christmas Fun Day

We had our annual Christmas breakfast morning and Santa visit for all the pupils on Friday 21st December. The Parents Reps had a yummy breakfast of sausages and rolls for the pupils with teas/coffees and treat for visiting parents. A huge thank you to all involved. It was a great way to start off the Christmas holidays!!. The BOM and staff would like to wish all our pupils and their families a very happy, safe and peaceful Christmas. See you all in January.
